By Matthew DeLuca, Staff Writer, NBC News

Authorities called for voluntary evacuations near the California cities of Riverside and Jurupa Valley as a fast-moving vegetation fire endangered homes overnight.

Residents worked alongside more than 200 firefighters to quench the blaze, which expanded from 10 acres to 150 in just three hours.

The fire was about 30 percent contained as of 12:20 a.m. local time on Friday, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. No injuries or fatalities were reported in the fire that set at least two buildings ablaze and knocked out power for more than 1,800 people in Riverside City as power lines went up in flames, the fire department said in an incident report.

Firefighters set controlled blazes called backfires in an attempt to consume the fire?s fuel and stop its spread. Two dozen fire engines and two bulldozers were among the equipment called into the area to check the blaze.

Voluntary evacuation orders were lifted as of Friday morning, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
