Dream Scar: A Grand Adventure Awaits

The World as it is Now

However serene the planet earth may appear, it must be noted that this is a facade. Civilizations on this planet are in constant turmoil, whether it is with themselves or against other nations. For as long as all can remember, war has been a catalyst in creation and destruction here, only recently have the horns of war silenced. All nations have agreed to a cease fire, giving the world momentary peace.

With war gone, the world somehow still remains as perilous as before. Many starve and suffer from the battles of before. Recuperating villages are now ideal prey. Men, women, and children of all types are disappearing. Vigilante justice is the only protection the weak are offered. Greedy tyrants hold seats of power only to have them ripped away by an equally underhanded foes.

This world is draped in eternal darkness, one can only assume such an unlucky fate was destined. In times like this people cling to religion and false idols as a last hope. There is talk that of a judgment day, a day when the mighty Shroud will return and save those worthy. To most this is highly unlikely, but one rumor that may hold truth, is that someone has found the missing Relics of Sovereignty.

Truth or Tale

Everyone at one time or another has heard the story of the mighty Shroud, beings so powerful that they could literally bend the earth to their will. If they wanted light, they but wave their hand and high in the sky, a large orb would reveal itself to shower them in rays of warm, soul-enriching light. They could stop the sands, move mountains and make it rain for days -- this was all possible because of the magically imbued Relics of Sovereignty: items which control the world around them.

This secret was soon discovered by their three most trusted servants The Engineer, The Warrior, and The Mage. Together, they plotted to take away these relics and rule themselves. But, the Shroud discovered their plans and decided that if they would not be allowed to wield such power, no one would. So, they destroyed the relics and left the planet, but not before punishing them and stripping them of most of their powers. It is because of their greed, the world is covered in darkness, barren, and cold.

However, some believe that they did not destroy the relics. Instead, they scattered and hid each one, to one day be found by someone worthy of wielding the godly powers. To do so, they must posses the Blank Compass, which will reveal the location of the Harbinger, the Six Gears of Life, and the Eternity Engine. Once all the items are brought together in the Dream Scar Palace, (the old Utopian home of the Shroud) power like no mere mortal has ever wielded will be theirs.

A Lesson In History

At one point in history, every race co-existed on the surface level of earth. The humans, thinking themselves superior, subjugated the Ravein, making them their servants and slaves. It wasn't long before the ravein began to revolt and began to look for assistance. This brought them to the worship of the magical subterranean Majnun as gods. After coming to an agreement with the Majnun, the two joined forces and sought to free the ravein from the oppressive humans. In turn, this lead to war between the two factions.

In the end, the humans gave up their conquest and focused their resources on other goals. The humans had decided to isolate themselves from the rest of the world by propelling their greatest city into the sky. They exiled those who were not human or for the advancement of the human race, from their city and began a period of intense isolation. During this time a dictatorship formulated itself under the reign of The Architect, the sole person responsible for the advancements in technology and self proclaimed 'Forger of Human Destiny'. Because of this, the man came to be worshiped as a god.

Soon, alchemy was developed and everyone had tenuous peace with everyone.

In more recent history, the Ravein stopped worshiping the Majnun as gods, realizing that though powerful, they were no such thing at all. The Majunun have basically been forced to agree to a treaty with humanity, because their alchemic science has proved an apt match for magic and they are far more numerous besides. The Ravein by and large want nothing to do with anyone who isn't living on the surface, though this does include some humans and a few Majnun... they trade with everyone, though, and the ground faction is the most populous.

Criminals known as Pirates have begun roaming the lands. Viewed as outlaws by all, they are apprehended on sight and punished for crimes committed against any faction. The most notorious of the bunch have bounties on their head which can be collected by anyone with skill enough to bring them in dead or alive. The emergence of pirates in a world of peace, has given the factions something to unite against and aim their frustrations; making them a necessary evil.

The Pirate Crew

The Asura, a group of nobodies turned notorious pirate crew overnight. They are your usual rag-tag, underdogs looking to gain immense wealth and fame as they become legends in their trade. It's hard to believe that they were once a gathering of criminal and outlaw acquaintances, who knew nothing of each other -- the name Asura, would mean nothing to them until later united by (my character).

Unlike other pirate crews, the Asura were specialists who often fancied themselves treasure hunters. They made their living smuggling and stealing goods from cargo ships; anything involving theft, stealth, and guile was their type of business. But, they were not the ruthless, murdering pirates who raped and pillaged small defenseless towns and fired upon any ship that dared to cross their path. However, doing what must be done in order to accomplish a job, is a different story. You could consider them good pirates, if you don't mind them robbing you blind; better than being dead, though?

The crew began their accession to infamy after stealing or attaining a prized warship. Named Decadence, this is the warship of which transports the crew faster than any vessel, ship, and/or blimp in existence. How they obtained such a ship is unknown. They claim to have discovered it, but others rumor it belonged to the Majnun. No matter its origin, it now belongs to the Asura and it is the reason behind their many successful heists.

After acquiring Decadence, the Asura would continue their streak and increase their reputation for having the best equipment. It was like they had a knack for finding premium loot; but a reliable intel network, didn't hurt their endeavors either. What they didn't keep for themselves, they would sell to the highest bidders. These deals would even bring them face-to-face with the very people who considered them outlaws and wanted them behind bars. At the end of the day though, it was just business and both parties respected that.

The story will resume around their more recent exploits, around five years later, after the crew's start. In midst of a mission, is where the story will begin. Having heard rumors that a certain Sky Empire Transpo-Walker is carrying a priceless artifact, of which is to be delivered to The Architect, the crew jumped at the chance to have it for themselves. Because security is higher than normal, the mission is to be carried out stealthily until the object of value is in their possession. They will escape under cover fire from Decadence. By the time the Empire realizes that the item has been stolen and that the assault was just a rouge, they will be long gone.
