2 Tenn. college players train for NFL tryouts

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) ? A pair of small college football players have been working out together in western Tennessee with the aim of being ready if any NFL team calls this spring.

Lane College cornerback Vernon Kearney and Bethel University offensive lineman Alex Matlock have been honing their skills with trainer Nick Stamper at Solus Performance Training in north Jackson

Pro days throughout the region are a few weeks away, and participating players like Kearney and Matlock want to be in top shape.

Kearney told The Jackson Sun (http://bit.ly/XiBp5G) that they've got "kind of a brotherly thing going" in their workouts.

Both Matlock and Kearney are also taking classes and expect to graduate in May. Kearney is a biology major at Lane. Matlock studies elementary education at Bethel.
