Alaska GOP chair: Sarah who?

?

Ex-Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin has lately teased national news media with a possible Senate campaign in Alaska, but the 49th state?s Republican chairman says he has never talked with the prospective candidate.

?I would think she would want to at least speak briefly to the new head of the Alaska Republican Party: But no, never met the lady.?Never spoken to her,? Peter Goldberg told Alaska Public Media.

Sarah Palin:? Is she still an Alaskan?

?I have seen her once,? added the Republican chairman.?Goldberg stood about 30 feet away from Palin at a 2008 GOP state convention.??That?s the closest I?ve come to Sarah Palin,? he joked.

Palin was getting sky-high 80 percent approval ratings in Alaska polls five years ago when Sen. John McCain tapped her as his running mate.?Months after the 2008 campaign, however, she quit as governor, went on the lecture-Fox News-Reality TV circuit and made an estimated $25 million during her first year out of office.

She showed little interest in Alaska, aside from endorsing Tea Party-backed candidate Joe Miller in his primary challenge to incumbent Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski in the 2010 primary.?Miller upset Murkowski, who then won reelection as a write-in candidate in the general election.

When talk began to surface of a Palin challenge to Democratic Sen. Mark Begich, Republican Murkowski was the first to hint that Palin no longer even lives in Alaska.

Begich has taken up the theme this week, asking what Palin knows about Alaska if she isn?t around, and pointedly noting that he has been working hard in public office while she quit.

Palin has denounced Begich on her Facebook page and in Tweets.?She has engaged in de facto campaigning even while having recently returned to Fox News as a pundit.

Joe Miller is gearing up another Senate campaign, and Lieutenant Governor Mead Treadwell (?lite governor? to the Alaska Ear column in the Anchorage Daily News) is exploring the race.

Of Palin, reported Alaska Public Media, ?Gov. Sean Parnell hasn?t spoken with her in months . . . House Majority Leader Lance Pruitt says he has never met her.?
