See? No matter how obvious something seems, there will always be people to disagree.
When Microsoft revealed that their new Xbox One console would feature used game DRM and mandatory daily Internet "check-ins," the gaming world went nuts. They hated it. When Sony announced at E3 that their PlayStation 4 would have no such mandates, everyone loved it.
And hence, we saw a big spike for the PS4, while the negative Xbox One headlines overflowed. It may have peaked with a Facebook poll asking gamers to pick their horse for the next generation; it was stopped early when Sony's machine had 95% of the overall vote. So yeah, that seemed pretty straightforward, right? When Microsoft rescinded those policies, it appeared to be a good thing.
But a new online petition at Change.org calls for Microsoft to change their minds again. Believe it or not, the petition asks the Xbox manufacturer to reinstate the policies they removed:
"This was to be the future of entertainment. A new wave of gaming where you could buy games digitally, then trade, share or sell those digital licenses. Essentially, it was Steam for Xbox. But consumers were uninformed, and railed [sic] against it, and it was taken away because Sony took advantage of consumers [sic] uncertainty."
Oh, don't laugh. The petition has nearly 1,500 signatures already. I'm almost tempted to sign it just so Microsoft will bring back those policies...and Sony's domination can be assured. ;)
